About

What is Research Rendezvous? Each year, middle school and high school students in Boulder and throughout the USA research various topics related to local, regional, national, or world history for National History Day. Research Rendezvous is a program at Boulder Public Library District designed to support students who are working on research projects by connecting them with skilled volunteers at research sessions offered at various library locations. This year’s theme, Innovation in History, invites students to consider questions of time and place, cause and effect, change over time, and impact and significance.

What do volunteers do? Mentor and support students as they build research skills and learn to appreciate history. Model curiosity and resourcefulness. Volunteers work one-on-one with students in 30-minute in-person sessions to help them form research questions, identify sources, and execute various parts of their project. Volunteers must be welcoming and willing to engage with students of all backgrounds and should have basic skills in researching.

One volunteer training session is offered. Please note this not training volunteers in how to research but provides information about library resources available to students and an overview of National History Day.

Sign up to volunteer!

  • Click on the blue "register" button and complete the required form to be considered
  • Please indicate if you can attend the volunteer training (training time counts as service time!) and one or multiple research mentor shifts.
  • Expect a call or email from library staff to confirm and collaborate with you on next steps.

Note: January 2027 dates forthcoming! If you're interested in being a mentor and can't attend the December date, please still register for the November volunteer training. We will contact interested volunteers with more info about January.
